Fall 2010 – Anne Mulcahy

*On November 7, 2010, Anne Mulcahy presented the lecture “Leadership: The Art of Developing Followership.”

Anne M. Mulcahy is the former chairperson of the board and the former chief executive officer of Xerox Corporation. She was named CEO on August 1, 2001, and chairman on January 1, 2002. Mulcahy was selected as the 2008 CEO of the Year by Chief Executive Magazine. She retired as CEO in 2009.

Mulcahy earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and journalism from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York, in 1974. In addition to the Xerox board, she has been a member of the board of directors of Catalyst, Citigroup Inc., Fuji Xerox Co. Ltd., and Target Corporation, as well as a member of The Business Council.

Mulcahy began her Xerox career as a field sales representative in 1976 and assumed increasingly responsible sales and senior management positions. From 1992 to 1995, she was vice president for human resources, responsible for compensation, benefits, human resource strategy, labor relations, management development and employee training.

Prior to serving as CEO, Mulcahy was president and chief operating officer of Xerox from May 2000 through July 2001. Before that, she was president of Xerox’s General Markets Operations, which created and sold products for reseller, dealer and retail channels.

The Wall Street Journal named Mulcahy one of 50 women to watch in 2005. Forbes Magazine ranked her as the sixth most powerful woman in America in 2005 and as the fifteenth most powerful in 2009. In 2008, she was selected by U.S. News & World Report as one of America’s Best Leaders.
