Center Accepting Proposals for 2013 Catt Research Prize

CATEGORIES: May 2013, Voices

The Catt Center is now accepting proposals for the 2013 Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics.

This annual competition is designed to encourage and reward scholars embarking on significant research in the area of women and politics. Research projects submitted for prize consideration may address any topic related to women and politics. Scholars at any level, including graduate students and junior faculty members, may apply.

Numerous proposals from a variety of academic disciplines are received each year. Proposals are blind-reviewed by a committee comprised of faculty members in the disciplines represented.

The Catt Center has increased the amount of money to be awarded annually, effective with the 2013 competition. A $1,500 cash award will be presented for each project selected for a Catt Prize. Projects selected for honorable mention recognition will each receive a cash award of $750. Awards will be announced by February 2014.

To be considered, applicants should submit the following materials, postmarked by Nov. 29, 2013: a completed cover sheet; a biographical statement of one page or less for each author; and four copies of the project description. The description – which should be five to 10 pages, double spaced and in 12-point font – is to include a proposal title; 150-200 word abstract summarizing the project’s purpose and content; discussion of relevant theory, contributions to literature in the field and methodology; a statement and itemized budget describing how the Catt Prize will contribute to the research project; and a timetable for completion. As proposals are blind-reviewed, author names are not to be included in the project description.

Applicants are to mail – not fax or email – the proposal packet to the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics, 309 Carrie Chapman Catt Hall, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011-1305.
