Bio

Carrie Ann Johnson serves as coordinator of research and outreach for the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics. She oversees such research and outreach programs as the Archives of Women’s Political Communication, Women in Iowa Politics Database, Gender Balance Project and Ready to Run® Iowa: Campaign Training for Women, as well as helping the center's undergraduate student voting champions with their campaigns to increase student voter engagement on campus. Johnson earned a Ph.D. in rhetoric and professional communication from Iowa State University, receiving the Iowa State Research Excellence Award for her dissertation, "Whisper Networks: Sexual Harassment Protection Through Informal Networks." She earned a master’s degree in American Studies and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations, both from Utah State University. In her professional career, Johnson has worked in public relations and content editing and has consulted for small businesses and local politicians in her community.
